If your parents have ever been divorced, you know it isn't always easy.
Because 40 to 50 percent of American marriages now end in divorce, it's easy to look over the lasting and potentially dangerous effects an event like that may have on children or even young adults.
In exploring what happens when your parents get divorced, BuzzFeedYellow sat down with people and had them discuss their own experiences going through their parents' divorce. One participant explained how to handle one parent talking about the other in front of you.
"My advice, if that's happening, is to respectfully ask your parents not to discuss the other person in front of you because a) it's not healthy and b) it makes you feel like shit," he said.
Others spoke about the lasting effect seeing a divorce had on them.
"I am a humongous commitment-phobe because of my dad," another participant admits. "I find it incredibly hard to get close to a guy."
All in all, each person had beautiful, helpful and unique advice.
