Fans of the 2001 cult classic Wet Hot American Summer have been anxiously waiting for any glimpse of the Netflix prequel since it was announced that the network would be recreating the film as a show. Last month, we finally got our first taste of the series when photos of the cast were released. On June 23, our prayers were answered when the first full-length trailer for Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp hit the Internet. And it is just as goofy, nostalgic and hilarious as we had hoped.
The trailer comes in the form of a grainy promotional video for Camp Firewood, the poorly run, largely unsupervised sleep-away camp where both the movie and the series take place. A voice-over tells parents that, if they send their children to Camp Firewood, they'll be exposed to a range of activities such as "archery, drama, arts and crafts, water sports and street dance." Accompanying this list are clips of favorite Wet Hot American Summer actors such as Amy Pohler, Paul Rudd, Bradley Cooper, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni and Elizabeth Banks, all back in their original roles as counselors.
The video promises that "the best summer of your life is just around the corner." And considering that Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp debuts on Netflix July 31, we're inclined to agree.
