September magazine covers often reveal the biggest fashion trends and styles for the upcoming season, but this year Vogue Brazil took a bit of a different direction for its September 2016 cover.
The magazine made breastfeeding the focus of its big issue.
Th gorgeous cover features model Carol Trentini breastfeeding her young son, Benoah. There is still lots of fashion shown, but the central statement is focused on the beauty of motherhood.
A second cover features a photo of Trentini seven months pregnant with her baby bump clearly visible in a sheer dress. In the fold out, she is holding her older son Benedict.
Inside the magazine, there are more photos of Trentini which celebrate motherhood in different forms. The photos, shot by Zee Nunes, are intimate, heartfelt, and breathtaking.
The Huffington Post points out that breastfeeding has been featured in fashion magazines before. Vogue Netherlands captured model Doutzen Kroes breastfeeding her son, while Olivia Wilde fed hers in the September 2014 issue of Glamour. Last year, Elle Australia made headlines for featuring model Nicole Trufio breastfeeding on the cover of the June 2015 issue.
Besides Elle Australia's cover, Vogue Brazil's cover with Trentini is still one of the first covers to portray breastfeeding on a fashion magazine. It's a brilliant step towards normalizing breastfeeding. The fact that is was done for the big September issue makes the impact even greater.
