Twitter Celebrates Obama Family With Viral #ThankYouObamas Hashtag

The Internet says goodbye to the 44th president.

With hours to go before Donald Trump is inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States, Twitter took one last opportunity to thank President Barack Obama and his family.

The hashtag #ThankYouObamas took over Twitter on Friday morning. Most of the messages centered around what will likely be President Obama's legacy: the Affordable Care Act, promoting equality for LGBT Americans, and job creation.

Other thank yous focused on the class and dignity of Obama's presidency. Many political commentators believe the lack of scandal in Obama's term is one of the highlights, as the two previous presidents had their legacy marred by a famous scandal and failed policy, respectively.

As president-elect Trump is sworn in today, it will mark the end of one of the most divisive political seasons in modern history. This morning, Trump and Obama met for coffee at the Oval Office, and ushered in a new era by riding to the inauguration together, per tradition.

Notably, the crowd at the inauguration will include the entire Obama family, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and previous presidents like George W. Bush, a symbolic reminder of the long-standing tradition to have a peaceful, cordial transfer of power.
