After 'Being Triggered And Tortured' By Her Own Hair, This Brave Woman Shaves It Off To Gain Some Control

"It's what it symbolizes that hurts."

Meet Rebecca Brown.

The 23-year-old British vlogger behind TrichJournal channel has suffered from trichotillomania for half her life. The Mayo Clinic defines this disorder as "recurrent, irresistible urges to pull out hair from your scalp, eyebrows or other areas of your body, despite trying to stop."

To gain control over her trichotillomania, Brown decided to shave her head — for the 7th time — and capture the emotional moment on camera.

"[I] either shave my hair or lose my hair," she explains in the video. "I'm fed up being triggered and tortured by the hair on my head. And I don't feel I have any other option. It's so complicated [...]. I'm not scared of shaving it off or being bald. It's what it symbolizes that hurts."

Though she notes shaving her head does not stop the disorder, you can see a relief in Brown's eyes once she's finished the process.

"This feels really nice," she finally says.
