Transgender Guy Took A Selfie Every Day To Document His Inspiring Change

What a journey.

It gets better.

Jamie Raines, 21, says that the small changes when he began taking testosterone were hard to notice at first. In order to ease the frustration and remain patient, he decided to document his transition.

"Within the first six months you didn't see that much but as time went on it became more and more rewarding," he told Buzzfeed.

Overall, there are 1,400 selfies in the 30 second video, which starts when Jamie was 17 and beginning hormone therapy.

Slowly, his face began changing.

Jamie also explained how he didn't like looking in the mirror before his transition, but during the process, he began liking what he saw. In a complete turnaround, it became something to look forward to.

"As the changes got more visible, taking them and creating the videos became more and more rewarding," Raines told The Huffington Post.

As time went on, Jamie began growing even more facial hair to go along with his burly new voice.

The transformation (and Jamie's evident strength) was so remarkable that Channel 4 even chose him to appear in its series "Born in the Wrong Body."

As transgender actress and activist Laverne Cox observed,"Healthcare for trans people is a necessity. It is not elective, it is not cosmetic, it is life-saving. But we are more than our bodies."

Transitioning can cost somewhere in the vicinity of $40,000 to $50,000. Hopefully, Jamie's experience can help spread awareness so people can finance their operations, and receive the necessary medical care.
