Not that we don't love "Mean Tweets," but hearing these transgender people read aloud "Kind Comments" sure was an uplifting change.
In honor of today being Transgender Day of Visibility, GLAAD and Instagram partnered with genderqueer activist Jacob Tobia. Together, they gathered leaders in the transgender community to come together for this campaign, reminiscent of Jimmy Kimmel's hilarious segments, but with a more positive and inspirational twist.
The famous faces — ranging in areas from acting to athletics to business — included in the video and photo series include Schuyler Bailar, Elliot Fletcher, Gigi Gorgeous, Alexandra Grey, Zoey Luna, Trace Lysette, Rocco Kayiatos, and Angelica Ross.
"Thank you so much for your advocacy, and for being a light for our community. You inspired me to come out publicly as trans a few days ago," Lysette, a start on Transparent, reads. "I can't thank you enough! Please keep pushing forward."
Not only were transgender people in front of the camera for this but they were behind it as well, with stylist Cetine Dale and photographer-producer Amos Mac involved. Mac took portraits of those involved and they can be found over at GLAAD's Instagram page.
BuzzFeed, who shared the video, also asked some of the folks involved for their self-affirmations, and messages of love and support for their queer and transgender friends. But, in the end, the video packs quite the emotional punch and leaves off with a powerful final comment.
"The world needs more people like you, who embrace everything that makes them unique!" Fletcher — who has appeared on Faking It, Shameless, and The Fosters — reads. "Thanks for helping break down the boxes we put ourselves in."
