Chilean-born photographer Claudia Gonzalez wanted to call attention to the hardships that those in the LGBT community face — 90 percent of all transgendered people, for instance, experience some form of harassment at work. She wanted to share their stories, and show the world that they're just as human as anyone else.
"This idea was accompanied by a sense of obligation and responsibility to these people," she wrote in a statement to A+.
And so her series "REASSIGN" was born. Her images depict side-by-side photos of her transgender subjects before and after their transition to the opposite sex with an important goal: to give the world a glimpse and basic understanding of their lives.
"REASSIGN is concerned with the respect and dignity for every human being," she wrote to A+.
