Pregnancy And Birth: What You Expect Vs. What Actually Happens

"Things did not work out as planned ... they rarely do, right?"

What's A-Parent is a series highlighting those who get real about the hardships that come with raising kids. These often untold stories help show parents they are not alone in their struggle, and are doing an amazing job.

Nothing can prepare you for actually having a child.

That's the message from actress and blogger Tova Leigh, who recently created a hilarious video to reveal the differences between expectations and reality about birth.

"When I was pregnant with my first, I read the famous book What to Expect When Expecting," Tova told A Plus via email. "I thought I had it covered and I even made a good old 'birth plan.' Well, obviously, things did not work out as planned ... they rarely do, right?"

In her video, Leigh jokes about everything from plans to work out after pregnancy falling apart, to whether she'd drink alcohol while breast feeding or where and how she'd give birth to her child.

"I know that for some (lucky) women, the expectation is also the reality and I am so happy for them," Leigh said. "But for many women, not so much. The idea in the blog was to laugh about it. Take it all a bit less serious and just laugh."

Once Leigh posted the video, she was pleasantly surprised to see how many women had similar experiences. Since going up, the video has gotten close to 200,000 views and tons of laughs and support in the comments.
