This past summer, 43-year-old Chris Newsome from Alabama kept seeing the same toad hanging out on his porch day after day. He named the little guy Mr. Toad and had an idea.
His friend's son had lost his pet toad and was pretty bummed about it. Newsome thought he could make a silly hat for Mr. Toad and send the photos to his friend's son to cheer him up.
He took a few minutes to make a tiny pink top hat and sent a photo over. Soon after, he found himself making other fun, colorful hats for Mr. Toad.
Although this happened last summer, we recently caught wind of it because Newsome posted photos of his toad hats on Reddit this week. "The toad that hangs out on my porch needed a hat," Newsome wrote on Reddit. "I decided to enter the world of toad millinery and help the little guy out. Foam paper seemed like a toad friendly material."
On Reddit, Mr. Toad's hats gained more than 1.1 million views and amassed tons of positive comments showing the images put a smile on people's faces.
Newsome noted that the toad never seemed to be bothered by the hats. If he placed one of his head, the toad would sit there, ignoring it.
In a comment on Reddit, Newsome shares that it was his first time making tiny hats. "But I have a degree in art and a hobby of making things ... if I think of something to make, I typically end up making it to see if I can do it. I now wish I spent more than 5-10 minutes per hat."
We think they're pretty great anyway. See for yourself in the images below.

Newsome hopes Mr. Toad will return this summer so he can make him some new fashionable accessories. He's set up a Twitter account where he's taking suggestions for future hat projects.
