This Is What Soldiers From Around The World Get In Their Daily K-Rations

Do Dutch troops actually get Mentos?

As much as we all love nice things, there are certain areas that leave no room for fancy-schmancy design or marketing messages that make you instantly fall in love with a given product. Take military supplies as an example. Here it's all about functionality and reliability.

Giulio Iacchetti, curator of the ongoing exposition K-RATION Meals for Soldiers in Action, offers us a glimpse at a very authentic design case — K-Rations, an individual food ration given to troops in the field. As explained in the exposition's official description, K-Rations have to adhere to very strict criteria. They have to be compact, color coded, and deliver the right amount of calories.

"These simple military kits reveal significant differences in the various countries they come from, because dietary customs have always been a powerful indicator of the civilization and culture of a nation," Iacchetti explains in a statement sent to A+. "The rations are generally characterized by their extreme simplicity in terms of size, together with packaging that is ideal for carrying in a backpack."
