Much has been said about how President Obama's legacy largely depends on who his successor is. Now that Donald Trump is president-elect, it seems that key legislative victories during the Obama administration, including healthcare and marriage equality, could be in danger of being repealed. But say what you will of how divided the nation has become in his eight years in the White House — Obama pushed for progress in ways that have moved the country forward, if not in law then in spirit, even in spite of the backlash.
Now Americans are having to come to terms with Obama's impending departure. Many took to Twitter on Wednesday to express their gratitude to the president under the hashtag #ThankObamaIn4Words. From his efforts at championing women's rights, LGBT rights, and diversity, to the simple joy of him and Michelle in the White House, there was much cause for gratitude.
