Emotional Video About The Effects Of Bullying On Teens Hits A Cold, Hard Nerve

Words matter.

"Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me."

Heard that saying before? Though well-intentioned, the phrase couldn't be further than the truth. Words can hurt and they do.

High school senior Kenzie Marcigan made this loud and clear in a video she created for her senior project to combat bullying. It has since gone viral with over 129,000 Facebook shares since she posted it March 12.

And it's not hard to see why. The film's contents are necessary, but chilling.

Like the fact that suicide is the third leading cause of death among teens.

She also features teens who lost their lives due to the cruelty of others.

To drive the point even further, Marcigan includes the words slung at those who died, from anonymous forums like Ask.fm

An article by NoBullying cited Ask.Fm as the link to at least seven teen suicides since 2012.

She ends with a vital message:

After seeing how her message spread, Marcigan is looking to major in film.

If this video is any indication of her work to come, we hope she does.
