18-Year-Old Fan Boosts Her Confidence By Recreating Taylor Swift's Costumes

"I just love making them and they make me feel fierce."

You don't need a designer clothing budget to dress like a celebrity, you just need a little creativity, and maybe some sewing skills. If you don't believe us, just take a look at 18-year-old Lotte Lutjes, who uses her amazing DIY skills to recreate Taylor Swift's costumes. The Dutch fan's creations are so accurate, you would think she and Swift picked them up at the same store.

Seventeen reported that Lutjes started reproducing Swift's costumes in 2014 when she and some friends got tickets to Swift's Red tour. Each girl was supposed to wear a different Taylor Swift look. When Lutjes couldn't find Swift's popular ringleader costume in stores, she set about making it herself, with the help of her grandmother.

Fast forward a couple of years and Lutjes has created over a dozen of Swift's looks. She posts photos of her impressive handiwork on Instagram. Plus, she has a YouTube channel to help the rest of us, who aren't as skilled, get Swift's look.

Check out some of Lutjes's amazing reproductions:

Lutjes's looks are so impressive, that even the real Taylor Swift sometimes can't tell the difference between herself and Lutjes.

Taylor Swift, is that you?

The technical skill and time that has gone into recreating each outfit is impressive, but the best thing about Lutjes's creations is the confidence they give her. Seventeen reported that Lutjes has Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, which makes walking and standing for extended periods of time difficult, so she sometimes requires a wheelchair.

"The costumes definitely make me feel more confident," she told the magazine. "Not because I look like Taylor in them — that's not my main goal! I just love making them and they make me feel fierce."

It is a joy to hear the boost of confidence Lutjes has from reproducing the looks. It demonstrates how fashion is so much more than clothes, it is a tool to empower.
