After weeks of teasing fans with bits of the character's look, the first on-scene photos of Jared Leto's Joker on "Suicide Squad" have been released. The new images feature an unrecognizable — and frankly, kind of terrifying — Leto dressed in a maroon button-up shirt and a shiny silver blazer, his powder white, eyebrow-less face in stark contrast to his red lips and brilliant green hair.
Taken from a scene of an argument (and later a kiss) with his Australian co-star Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn, the photos also show a number of The Joker's tattoos, including one on his forehead that reportedly reads "damaged" and one with the words "Ha Ha Ha" scrawled angrily on his shoulder.
The multi-talented Leto is only the third actor to play The Joker in a prominent Hollywood role. Jack Nicholson's largely comedic portrayal of the character in Tim Burton's 1989 "Batman" film was followed by an eerily dark Joker, played by the late Heath Ledger in 2008 in "The Dark Knight."
While it's unclear how Leto will tackle the role, he has bulked up in recent months, as evidenced by an Instagram photo showing the actor's biceps that he posted a few weeks ago. "Suicide Squad" director David Ayer also took to Twitter last month to reveal Leto's character's first look with full makeup, and the most recent photos confirm what fans should expect the latest Joker to look like.
Set to debut in late summer in 2016, "Suicide Squad" also stars Will Smith, Cara Delevingne and Ben Affleck.
