17 Subtle Hand-Poked Tattoos Prove Beauty Is In The Details

'Hello, tattoo parlor? We want to make an appointment ...'

In the past few years, hand-poked tattoos (otherwise known as stick-and-poke or DIY tattoos) made an epic comeback with celebrities such as Rihanna, Cara Delevingne and Miley Cyrus inkin' their bodies in such a manner.

We say "comeback" because the technique is literally hundreds of years old.

Hand-poked tattoos are created by pressing skin with an inked needle one dot at a time. A series of dots creates the full image and some tattoo artists even claim it's less painful than the usual machine-tattooing technique. Although it takes up much more time than the latter, stick-and-pokes don't puncture the skin as deeply, so the pain is relatively less.

Check out these cool examples of hand-poked tats we discovered on Instagram!
