Sia is the latest pop artist to take part in the newfound tradition of dropping surprise singles, but hers comes with an important, socially conscious message. Featuring Kendrick Lamar, "The Greatest" is far more than just another dance club hit.

From the second the video begins with a close-up of dancer Maddie Ziegler's face, it's clear — this is pop with a purpose.

On the verge of tears, Ziegler wipes rainbow face paint down both of her cheeks, honoring the LGBTQ victims of the mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Throughout the video, pain and sadness mingle with hope and even whimsy, exploring the range of emotions people experience in the face of mass violence.

Many fans have already celebrated the overall positive message of the lyrics "I got stamina," "I won't give up," as well as the chorus: "I'm free to be the greatest / I'm alive."
