After The Birth Of Her Daughter, Serena Williams Wrote A Tender Letter To Her Mom About Being A Strong Role Model

"You are one of the strongest women."

After Serena Williams gave birth to her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., on September 1, she shared sweet photos of her first child with partner, Alexis Ohanian. She also penned a heartfelt letter to her mom, Oracene Price, thanking her for being a strong and graceful role model.

She shared part of the letter on Instagram, along with a photo of her daughter, and the full thing on Reddit — the site Ohanian co-founded.

In the letter, the tennis champion explains how her newborn already has her strong, muscular arms and legs, but she admits she doesn't know how she will react if her daughter has to go through the things she herself went through growing up.  Thankfully, Serena had her own mother there to help get her through the good times and the bad.

Williams thanks her mom for being a powerful, body positive role model, saying "You are one of the strongest women."

Since the post was shared on Instagram on September 19, it has received over half a million likes.

Commenters are thanking Williams and her mom for being role models and sharing their experiences.

One Instagram commenter wrote, "Women like you and your mom have helped us celebrate strength and beauty ..."

Another said, "May all of our girls grow up to love themselves in whatever body they came in. And as moms, we will teach them to be independent, while always being their fierce protectors. As your mom did for you."

In an effort for equality, Williams is quick to call out sexist commenters and "lazy" interviewers and is honest about her challenges. Last year, the athlete wrote a letter in Porter magazine's "Incredible Women of 2016" Issue, about her dreams of becoming a successful tennis player and how she used her family, courage, and differences to succeed.
