In order for an organism to spread its genes on and contribute to the evolution of the species, it needs to reproduce. This is no easy feat, as there is some extreme competition, typically with males searching for a receptive female.
Reproducing is so important, many insects have some pretty incredible ways of attracting a mate and then making sure that the resulting offspring are getting everything they need to be successful.
As SciShow explains, this can mean a range of things from putting on incredible displays to attract a mate or engaging in sex, though it could mean certain death. Some insects are even capable of mind control, making sure that their partner doesn't stray.
If these insects want to win at evolution, they need to reproduce and they'll stop at nothing to get the job done.
