As February comes to a close, MLB spring training has finally gotten underway. Baseball as a sport may be suffering with the casual sports fan due to its slow speed, but it's still got a loyal, hardcore following, and is actively targeting young viewers with rule changes and various creative marketing efforts. Sometimes that means picking the low-hanging fruit, which is exactly what the San Diego Padres did on their photo day. Their fruit in this case was a tried-and-true attention grabber: puppies. Who doesn't like puppies?
A heartless cynic, that's who. Although puppies don't really have a single thing to do with baseball, they're basically Nutella at this point: they make everything better and you can never have enough. To think otherwise is to admit you don't have a soul.
