A 17-year-old Gabonese boy who covered a Celine Dion song has become an internet sensation after the five-time Grammy Award-winning artist shared his video on Facebook.
Two weeks ago, African blogger Barack Nyare Mba received a video from a friend. The video showed teenage Samuel singing Dion's 1993 hit "The Power Of Love" while sitting on his staircase.
Samuel grew up in a poor family that could not afford singing lessons — yet his acapella rendition of the song was just too perfect to ignore.
Nyare Mba shared it on his Facebook page and the video went viral. Eventually, the video caught the attention of Queen Celine herself. She shared the video on her Facebook page and included a special message.
"Samuel, your talent is as big as your voice," Dion wrote on Facebook. "I'm touched my songs have travelled all the way to you and hope we have the chance to meet one day. May all your dreams come true. Keep singing like you do. When music comes from the heart, it knows no borders!"
After two weeks, Samuel's video received more than 2.8 million views.
"The day after publication, I received a call from a producer who wants to help me to start," Samuel said to France 24, according to a translation. "Now I want to travel. I would love to go to France or Canada, to launch my career."
Now that Samuel's music career is finally underway, he still has one more dream to accomplish.
"My dream? [To meet Celine Dion] at least once in my life."
