2015 will go down in history as the year that the U.S. legalized same-sex marriage. After centuries of being denied their fundamental right to legal romantic fulfillment, gay couples across the country were finally granted marriage equality.
Tumblr user DopeyBeauty is giving equality activists even more reason to get choked up. Known for her spectacular Disney edits, she created a new series entitled Disney Movies No One Asked For that envisions some of our favorite Disney characters as same-sex couples.
Remember this badass ancient Greek couple?
And this romantic magic carpet-flying couple?
She took both those masculine Disney protagonists and paired them together to create this beautiful couple.
Crossing cultures and cartoons, this Photoshop whiz gets it right.
But how did this come about?
"I remembered a 1999 episode of Hercules: The Animated Series where Hercules and Aladdin meet," she told BuzzFeed, "and thought about how it would be interesting to put them together as a couple! I also thought it would be a good challenge to try to edit it and I had a lot of fun doing it."
For instance, this fishy couple looked cute together ...
... But Prince Eric was kind of the worst. Ariel and Jasmine probably make a far better couple.
DopeyBeauty told BuzzFeed that the response has been overwhelming.
"One person even told they got emotional looking at them," she said, "because Disney is so important to them and they'd love to see something similar produced by Disney themselves! I hadn't even considered that reaction when editing them (I was just doing it for fun), but it was so lovely to hear how many people were moved by them."
Then there's this classic Disney pair.
And these star-crossed lovers.
But what if both these women were the ones defying all odds to be together?
She also said she hopes to do more, so long as she can come up with ideas.
DopeyBeauty's other Disney edits are pretty darn cool, too — like this ...
... And this.
One thing's for sure — Disney characters have had a whole lot of makeovers...
... But this same-sex remake might be our favorite yet.
