Richard Simmons is publicly addressing his fans after reports surfaced this week that he was hospitalized for "severe indigestion." The 68-year-old fitness guru hasn't been seen publicly since 2014, causing some people to worry for his safety. The popular podcast Missing Richard Simmons was even created around the mystery.
Simmons posted a message on his Facebook page Wednesday addressing the hospitalization and other concerns from fans. He showed good humor and expressed his appreciation.
"Hello to everyone who has shown concern for me and sent their good wishes. You will never know how much it means to me," he began, alongside a photograph of himself appropriately wearing a "Keep Calm and Carry On" shirt. "Aren't you sick of hearing and reading about me?!"
He added that he's not "missing," only "a little under the weather."
"This has reminded me that when you need help you can't be afraid to reach out and ask for it," Simmons continued. "We all think we should always be able to solve our problems all by ourselves and sometimes it's just bigger than we are."
"I reached out and I hope you will too," he wrote. "I'm sure there are people in your life who love and care for you and would do anything to help you with the challenges you face."
He told fans he hopes to see them soon. Commenters showed their support, with one writing, "Please know that we respect your right to privacy and your right to rest and heal." Another told Simmons, "You have offered unconditional love and support to so many, don't be afraid to accept some of that in return."
We wish Simmons all the best, including a speedy recovery.
