9 Things People Dating Their Longtime Best Friends Know To Be True

An adorable kind of love story.

Pop culture suggests that people have a fascination with the best friends-turned-lovers kind of love story ("Boy Meets World," anyone?)

It could have something to do with the fact that a majority of the population loves classic picture perfect, movie-esque endings. But it also could be that the relationships people have with someone they've known for so long speak to how much those involved really care about one another — and that's super adorable.

If you're not convinced, these are the awesome perks of being with someone who you have known for a long time:

1. You have someone who knows the context of your life. Literally, almost your entire life.

They knew you when you were going through your first serious relationship or lost a loved one. Not having to give background to them like you would a more recent partner is relieving.

2. You've known each other for so long there is nothing awkward or embarrassing you could do to make them stop caring.

Farting isn't awkward when you both have heard each other do it a thousand times.

3. You always have a person to hang out with without feeling clingy.

They know you just love being with them. They're like a built-in best friend — mostly because they probably were your best friend before you started dating.

4. They've seen you make mistakes and still haven't gone anywhere.

Whether you were actually dating all of those years or just friends first, they've seen your life play out in the realest of ways. They've seen you fail, reach goals, be head over heels in love, get hurt, make huge mistakes and they still care about you.

5. There is no awkward "introduction to the family" phase of the relationship.

They remember them from sports games or from that school project or from after that dance when your dad yelled at him for trying to cop a move or from that time on the block when he/she tripped you and made you skin your knee.

6. You get to experience a deeper kind of love.

There's the butterflies-in-your-stomach love for them, but dating someone you've known forever creates another, deeper love. A love that is your way of just knowing that no matter what happens between you both, you'll care for them like family.

7. You have a better understanding that being with them is really what you want.

You know you're capable of living a life independent of them, but you know having them in your life as a significant other is where you prefer them to be. Having both experiences gives you more clarity when it comes to if they're the right person for you.

8. You have shared life experiences that make being with them feel like home.

Shared a hometown? They get how boring it was. Went to high school together? They remember that hilarious moment at the school dance when Tommy ripped his pants. They knew you at the most fun part of your life? They know what you look like when you're truly alive. Sharing nostalgic moments is so much better when the other person was there, too.

9. They know what made you the person you are.

The best part of dating someone you've known forever is knowing who they are, what makes them happy, sad, angry, excited, where they came from, what they've overcome and still choosing them. You love finding comfort in the fact that they know exactly who you are and still choose to love you, too.
