Germany Just Taught Us All How Refugees Really Need To Be Welcomed

Way to go, Germany.

Imagine having to abandon your own home — be it because of oppression, persecution or war — and moving to a completely unknown place in hopes of safer life for yourself and your family. Not knowing if you're welcome there.

Sadly, this is the case for many people from countries such as Syria, Somalia and Afghanistan. In Syria alone, where civilians are targeted with chemical weapons and barrel bombs, 4 million people — nearly every fifth person in the country — were forced to flee. As a result, hundreds of thousands of refugees are taking dangerous routes to Europe, quite literally to save their lives.

Now Germany, the country that could potentially be taking in 500,000 refugees, has just showed us all how refugees actually should be welcomed. Or so this Channel 4 News video suggests.

Kids kissing kids hello.

Not to mention sharing candy.

People cheering ...

... and applauding refugees as they arrive to Germany.

That look on the refugees' faces ...

But what's most amazing about this video is the locals clapping with big wide smiles on their faces, singing "refugees are welcome here." That's right. Welcome.

Opening your heart to people you might not know much about ... now that's truly beautiful.
