They're called the Reborners, a community of artists who create, collect and interact with ultra-realistic baby dolls. The dolls themselves are called "reborn dolls" and are treated as if they were alive. Photographer Jamie Diamond spent nine months embedded in this unusual subculture, participating in and documenting their behaviors and rituals. This eerily beautiful photo collection is the result.
"In this series, I am interested in blurring the distinctions between real and unreal and the living and the in-animate," she writes on her website. "Working with the Reborn community has allowed me to explore the grey area between reality and artifice where relationships are constructed with inanimate objects, between human and doll, artist and artwork, uncanny and real."
