Last night, with Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Sam Smith and other influential music industry power players together at the Grammy Awards, President Barack Obama pre-recorded a video with a message that spoke right to them. And to all of us.
"Together we can change our culture for the better, by ending violence against women and girls," the President said in the powerful video.
Citing nearly 1 in 5 women in America have been victims of rape or attempted rape, and nearly 1 in 4 women face domestic violence, Obama calls upon the public and those influential artists who can make a change.
"It's not okay, and it has to stop," Obama said. "Artists have a unique power to change minds and attitudes...and all of us, in our own lives, have the power to set an example," he continued.
Since the video aired, people have spoke out about the movement and the cause:
It really is on us, so let's get started.
