Photographer Captures Essence Of Depression In Brilliant Photo Series

Simply shocking.

Nearly 15 percent of Americans suffer from depression. 21-year-old photographer Edward Honaker, who was diagnosed with depression two years ago, recently released a photo series in which he revealed the agony of living with his illness.

"When I was making the portfolio, I asked myself if I was the kind of person whom others would feel comfortable coming to if they were going through a difficult time and needed someone to talk to," Honaker told Huffington Post. "Truthfully, at the time, I don't think I was. I've still got quite a ways to go, but the whole experience made me a lot more patient and empathetic towards others."

Artists often use their creative talents to show what it's like to suffer from depression, and Honaker's photos are a great example.
