The creators of "Night Terrors" have one simple goal — to create the "scariest game ever made."
But what is "Night Terrors?" According to game development company Novum Analytics, it's a mobile app, still in its demo phase, that's "an ultra immersive gaming experience that transforms your environment into a terrifying hellscape."
All you need is a phone...
... to scan the rooms of your house.
Employing several features on your phone, and using a depth estimation camera system, the game's technology analyzes your environment and creates characters that seemingly interact with it in real time.
As you view the rooms, you'll start to see things... things that shouldn't be there...
Monsters lurk behind walls, pop out, and even come at you.
"The quality of the data is good enough, that the game actually builds a map of your home as you're playing it," the creators explain in a YouTube video. "This allows the monsters to move around in the environment exactly as they would if they were real."
But remember, the game is immersive, so it's not just about visuals. It includes sound as well. The game "understands" barriers in your home, and can make monsters sound like they're behind walls, coming closer to you or moving farther away.
The creators explain on their website :
"Think about a system that understands where you are in your environment, and is able to exploit that information in order to create an unbelievable augmented reality experience. Think about playing a game where the storyline involves you. Consider a future full of movies you star in, experiences that seem real, and scenarios, in our case, that are freakishly frightening."
