Last night the Scripps National Spelling Bee finals aired on ESPN. It's an appropriate network for the competition, considering how many people at home treat it like the Super Bowl. Not to mention that, for a lot of us, it's the closest we ever get to watching any kind of sporting event each year.
This time, for the third year in a row, there was a tie, and the bee crowned two co-champions — Jairam Hathwar and Nihar Janga. Their winning words were "Feldenkrais" and "gesellschaft," respectively. Try saying those three times fast without getting tongue-tied.
Social media was in awe of these incredibly bright kids, making the bee a trending topic on Twitter. Funny GIFs were made, favorites were chosen, and heads were scratched as we asked ourselves time and time again, "Is that really a word?"
Below are a just few hilarious tweets from last night that perfectly sum up how we all felt watching these amazing kids spell their hearts out.
