A young mom is taking back the conversation after trolls on social media criticized a photo of her breastfeeding her child in public.
Naomi Jael Covert's 10-month-old son TJ became hungry while the pair were at a wedding reception a few days ago. Covert, who lives in Germany, is accustomed to breastfeeding in public, and she snapped an Instagram photo to show that it's a normal, natural practice.
"I made the silly face because it's literally not a big deal to feed your baby," the 21-year-old told BuzzFeed News.
Covert was surprised the next day when she discovered that Instagram user empoweredbirthproject had shared her breastfeeding photo, and it was going viral.
While there were numerous supportive commenters on the platform that praised her, there were also a few haters in the mix. One wrote that she should "hide under a rock" while feeding her child.
"It is nothing sexual," Covert told BuzzFeeds News. "It's just another person eating."
In response to the haters, Covert penned a powerful Facebook message.
"Hahahah seriously. It's YOU who gets offended," Covert wrote on Facebook, adding, "It's crazy to me, how people think that the wedding guests or anybody was offended or felt uncomfortable. Because guess what. They weren't. They even helped me unhook my dress and help me. What's the fuss about? Feed the baby. He wants to see me. He won't take [a] blanket over his face. Hate all you want. But if this offends YOU. The problem is YOU."
