Depression is never really an easy subject to discuss, especially for the nearly 15 million American adults who struggle with it. It doesn't help that depression and other mental health issues are often stigmatized.
May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, and it's an opportunity to speak out about invisible illnesses and disorders. But for those who many not feel as comfortable voicing their personal experiences, social media can be a haven for self expression.
That's why some are taking to Twitter this month to provide insight and information on what living with depression is really like for them. Using the hashtag #MyDepressionLooksLike, users are demonstrating just how different everyone's experience with depression can be.
And while there are many resources to help people suffering, sometimes, just knowing you're not alone can be a comforting.
