While the two have not yet met, Lionel Messi — along with his team — sent a little boy named Murtaza a real, signed jersey!
Check it out below:
Last month, a picture of 5-year-old Murtaza Ahmadi wearing a plastic replica jersey of Lionel Messi went viral.
After the Internet did some research, we soon learned that he was from the "Jaghori district in the Afghan province of Ghazni," according to AlJazeera.com.
According to Sky News, Murtaza's older brother, Homayoun, 15, made him the jersey.
Homayoun told Al Jazeera, "Murtaza found a plastic bag and ran towards me asking me to make a jersey out of it for him."
Unfortunately, the family cannot currently afford to buy Murtaza a real jersey, as it is too expensive.
However, Murtaza might get even more than a real Messi jersey. He may actually get to meet his real-life hero.
ASEAN Football Federation spokesman Syed Ali Kazemi told Al Jazeera, "We've been contacted by Messi's management team and they have expressed their interest in meeting the boy."
While a venue and meet date have not yet been set, we do hope it happens soon.
