While it is traditional for women to take their husband's last name upon getting married, more women today are bucking that trend. A 2015 analysis of wedding announcements from the New York Times found that 29.5 percent of women kept their last names, up from 16.2 percent in 1990.
There are many, many reasons for women to both keep their names and change them — but all women should feel empowered to make that decision on their own.
