Madonna Has A Response For The Haters After Her Tribute To Prince With Stevie Wonder At The BBMAs

"If you loved him and he inspired you then show it!"

On Sunday night, Madonna and Stevie Wonder paid tribute to the late Prince Rogers Nelson.

Introduced by Questlove, who likened Prince's death to an "earthquake," Madonna came out and performed "Nothing Compares 2 U" to open the tribute during the Billboard Music Awards.

Later, she was joined by Stevie Wonder — and the entire crowd — as she performed "Purple Rain."

While many enjoyed the performance — such as Celine Dion, who was watching from backstage — there was a slew of backlash.

The BET Awards took to Twitter to promote its own tribute performance and threw what many saw as shade at Madonna, saying, "Yeah, we saw that."

Upon seeing the promo and additional hate being thrown at Madonna, Questlove took to Twitter to try to shed some light on the comments being thrown around.

He emphasized that there will be many tributes to Prince, whose shoes will always be impossible to completely fill.

For lack of a better way of putting it, there will never be anything that compares to the late legend.

Madonna herself also saw what was happening on social media and decided to kindly respond back with some love on Instagram, saying, "Anyone who wants to do a tribute to Prince is welcome to. Whatever your age Gender or skin Color. If you loved him and he inspired you then show it!"

We agree, Madonna. You can catch some clips of the Queen's Prince tribute below.
