Few things bring as much joy to our hearts as old couples showing their love and affection toward each other. It reminds us that happily ever after really does exist.
So, when we came across Joe and Wanda Johnson's recent wedding photoshoot, we couldn't help but squeal. The couple recreated their wedding photos in honor of their 63rd wedding anniversary. 63rd!
The Johnsons started dating when they were still in school. Joe was a college student and Wanda was in high school. Their families were friends, so when Joe spotted her walking home one day, he stopped his car and offered her a ride. They were only a block away from her house, but she accepted anyway. The couple dated for two years after that.
63 years later, their granddaughter Shalyn Nelson offered to help them celebrate their anniversary by recreating their wedding photos. The Texas-based photographer put together the shoot and asked them to write love letters to each other for the occasion.
"It's been a long time since I have written you a letter. I think it was when I was working in Canada, that I wrote you last. Anyway, I still love you just as much, probably more. The years have gone by fast. One morning you just wake up and you are OLD," Joe wrote in his letter. "I love you as much today as the day I married you. And just think, the license only cost $2.00. The best bargain I ever made." You can read the rest of it here.
The photoshoot is part of an ongoing project for Nelson titled Love, The Nelsons. In it, she's capturing and interviewing older couples about their relationships. The project isn't completed yet, but we have a feeling her grandparent's shoot will be our favorite one.
Seriously, their photos will make you smile ear-to-ear before you can say the words "relationship goals."
