Little Big Shots is taking the nation by storm.
The show — a joint project between talk show hosts Ellen DeGeneres and Steve Harvey, and hosted by the latter — features youngsters ages 12 and younger doing anything from directing a choir to martial arts. But unlike other talent shows, this one does not feature the element of competition.
Here, it's just about talent, and we were blown away by a recent demonstration of some smoking-hot salsa moves courtesy of 8-year-old Beberly Devers and 12-year-old Johnathan Meza.
Beberly, from North Bergen, N.J., and Johnathan, from Jersey City, took to the floor in matching, fiery yellow outfits and wasted no time getting into the groove in the Salsa Caleña style — which originated from Cali, Colombia, and is faster than your typical salsa dancing thanks to the movement of the feet and acrobatics found in the choreography.
Which means we got to see a little of this ...
... and then a little of this:
wow, Wow, WOW!
As you can see, these aren't some little kids attempting to be cute by dressing up in grown-up clothing. These two are serious salseros with the skills to back up the costumes.
Maybe that's because Johnathan has been dancing since he was 6 years old, having since participated in the World Latin Dance Cup (winning third place in a soloist category), being a part of a group that won World Salsa Championship titles two years in a row, and a number of TV appearances on shows such as Good Morning America and Sábado Gigante, where he won first place in a salsa competition.
"When I grow up, I want to be the most important dance choreographer in the world, and have my own dance academy, and to someday dance with my Idol, Marc Anthony," Johnathan told A Plus.
But little Beberly also has big accomplishments and big ambitions. Though she and Johnathan began partnering in October — and now the two practice twice a week for an hour at a time — she began dancing at the age of 5 and has been named the "Youngest World Champion Salsa Dancer" thanks to appearances on Italy's Ballando con le Stelle and the hit show Sábado Gigante," where she twice won first place in a salsa competition. She, too, has seen her talent take her to TV, appearing on everything from Ridiculousness to El Gordo y La Flaca to The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and likely your Facebook feed and on your YouTube playlist with one of her dozens of viral videos.
"I would like to keep dancing when I grow up," she tells A Plus, adding, "I would also like to be a professional singer and a professional actress, as well."
Both youngsters say they are blessed to have their talents and to be doing what they love.
And we are, too, given that we loved every minute of this performance and are pretty sure you will, too. You can see the full episode of Little Big Shots here, but watch the video above to focus on this dynamic duo's hypnotic floor routine.
