The exact number of cyberbullying incidents is unknown, but experts agree that the phenomenon is widespread, growing, and important to address. That is why Tarte Cosmetics and anti-bullying group ByStander Revolution are launching a social media awareness initiative to bring attention to this important issue.
"Cyber-bullying is all too common on social media. 88 percent of teens witness cyberbullying every day. We want to use our social platforms to encourage our fans to spread positivity rather than judge someone's appearance, which is why this initiative is so important to us," said Tarte Cosmetics CEO and founder Maureen Kelly in a press release. "If we can make an impact through kind words and simple compliments, the Internet would be a much more beautiful place."
To participate in the campaign, just post an Instagram selfie with your kissed hand over your mouth (along with the hashtag #kissandmakeup, a compliment to a tagged friend, and tags to @tartecosmetics and @bystanderrevolution). Tarte will retweet a few favorites to its 3 million fans.
