It's appropriate that Spike's Lip Sync Battle airs on Thursday nights, considering how many throwback performances we've seen from the celebrity competitors. Last night was no different, with Uhura and Spock — also known as Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto — paying tribute to TLC and Missy Elliott, respectively.
Zoe started things off by mouthing along to "No Scrubs" (1999) in a futuristic silver outfit and Left Eye hair. Then, to make things even more authentic, she was joined by none other than T-Boz and Chilli themselves. Who could beat that?
Zachary made a valiant effort to best Zoe's iconic performance with a classic of his own. He chose a music video reenactment from around the same era, donning a bedazzled denim look and hoop earrings to channel Missy Elliott's "Get Ur Freak On" (2001).
We think LL Cool J's reaction pretty much says it all:
Don't forget, LL made an appearance in the very music video Zachary was paying homage to.
Sadly Missy herself didn't show up to perform with Zachary, but he did a pretty good job on his own. He even finished the performance by swinging from a chandelier. So it's safe to say he'd be just as comfortable doing a Sia tribute.
