When Lexus first introduced their hoverboard, the world took the news with a grain of salt. Would we really, finally be able to make like "Back To The Future" and Marty McFly around our neighborhood?
Well, we finally have our answer in this new video Lexus put out. While you do need a specially designed skatepark to support the hoverboard, you can indeed hover and skate on water.
Lets let the experts explain how it works.
According to Dr. Oliver de Haas, “The magnetic field from the track is effectively ‘frozen’ into the superconductors in the board."
Dr. de Haas further explained to MotorAuthority, this maintains, "the distance between the board and the track—essentially keeping the board hovering. This force is strong enough to allow the rider to stand and even jump on the board."
However, it is not so easy to ride a board that has zero friction. Professional skateboarder Ross McGouran explained, "I've spent 20 years skateboarding, but without friction it feels like I've had to learn a whole new skill, particularly in the stance and balance in order to ride the hoverboard. It's a whole new experience."
