After The Las Vegas Shooting, People Showed Their Gratitude For First Responders' Courage

"Thank you for your acts of bravery."

As social media is inundated with ways to help the victims of yesterday's mass shooting and calls for stricter gun control laws, a number of public figures have publicly thanked those who put themselves in harm's way to help others — the first responders.

Though 58 people died and more than 500 were injured, both numbers may have been much higher had it not been for law enforcement officials who ran toward the gunfire and did whatever they could to stop it. The actions and bravery of police officers, medical personnel, and others typically garners less attention than casualty numbers, but what these individuals do (on a daily basis, no less) is incredibly important and worthy of the utmost praise.

Sheriff Joe Lombardo gives an update in the early morning hours.

As actor George Takei wrote on Twitter, the actions of first responders "helped save lives tonight," while Senator John McCain thanked them for their bravery. Scroll down to see what other public figures had to say about this often under-appreciated but vital group of selfless and courageous people.
