Lacoste Replaced Its Iconic Crocodile Logo In Effort To Save Endangered Species

Lacoste has swapped out its signature crocodile for animals who need a little more love these days. The French clothing company teamed up with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to produce 10 limited-edition polos that show some of the most-threatened species in the world in place of the iconic Lacoste crocodile.  

The polo shirts feature endangered species such as Burmese roofed turtles, Anegada's ground iguanas, northern sportive lemurs, Javan rhinos, California condors, and more. Lacoste used the same embroidery technique for these animals as they do for the brand's crocodile. The shirts help to raise awareness about animals teetering on the brink of extinction and profits from the $185 shirts will help the IUCN fight for wildlife conservation worldwide.

For example, cao-vit gibbons are one of the rarest apes in the world with only 150 left. So, Lacoste produced 150 shirts featuring the gibbon. Unfortunately, there are only 30 vaquita porpoises swimming our waters, so Lacoste created just 30 polos with the solitary sea mammal. Anegada's ground iguana has the highest population of the bunch with 450 animals still alive. 

In total, they released 1,775 polo-shirts featuring the 10 endangered species they selected — and all of them have already sold out.
