Bride With Alopecia 'Embraces Her Bald' By Not Wearing A Wig On Her Wedding Day

"There was no way I was going to wear a wig at my wedding."

At the age of 12, Kylie Bamberger was diagnosed with an advanced form of alopecia areata called alopecia universalis, an autoimmune disease that results in complete hair loss, including eyelashes, eyebrows, and body hair.

By high school, most of her hair was gone, but she didn't let it bring her down. Five years ago, she decided to embrace the condition and to stop wearing a wig completely. Now, she is a model and motivational speaker, touting messages of self-love and body positivity, and sharing her words of encouragement on Instagram and in interviews.

"Wanted to share with you all a little tidbit on what makes you beautiful & #WhatIModel. @si_swimsuit issue was more diverse than ever before, celebrating women's bodies as they are. 👏 We still need more awareness for hair loss, maybe a bald model featured?!?! @mj_day !! #lovemyswimsuit @swimsuitsforall @womenIRL @aerie@healthmagazine #aerieswim #aeriereal #womenirl #siswimsearch"

So, when it came time for the 27-year-old's wedding in October 2016, she continued to embrace who she is by not wearing a wig.

For parts of the wedding, Bamberger wore a delicate floral headband and in others, she left her head bare.

Bamberger recently shared a #TBT photo from her wedding on social media and the photo went viral thanks to its message of self-love.

After the photos began circulating online, the newlywed explained to Inside Edition that the decision not to wear a wig was an easy one.

"There was no way I was going to wear a wig at my wedding," she said.

As she explained in an interview with Health, "Hair loss doesn't make you unhealthy, and it doesn't make you ugly. Those are two massive, massive misconceptions. I am not sick. I'm only stronger. If you're out there, bald, it just means you're becoming stronger. If you're out there embracing you're bald, you're stronger. Period."
