When he's not dancing The Carlton or performing epic tributes to the history of rap music, new dad Justin Timberlake likes to voice cute characters in DreamWorks Animation's upcoming flick, Trolls, based on the ubiquitous dolls. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Timberlake is an executive producer of the film.
Oh, and he also likes to make music. But the last songs we heard from him were from his two-part The 20/20 Experience albums in 2013.
That changed Thursday when Timberlake — who had been teasing a new track days earlier — dropped the "first listen" music video for his tune "Can't Stop the Feeling."
Kristopher Tapley of Variety describes the song as "an earworm sure to take off this summer," and that description couldn't be more accurate. The toe-tapping, head-nodding, feel-good track instantly warms the soul of listeners and harkens back to another huge hit from an animated film: Pharrell's "Happy" from Despicable Me 2.
(Not so out of character, we guess, since Pharrell and JT have collaborated dozens of times over the years.)
The song's clip features appearances from some of JT's co-stars from Trolls, including Anna Kendrick, Late Late Show host James Corden, Gwen Stefani, Big Bang Theory's Kunal Nayyar, "I Love It" singers Icona Pop, and Ronald Funches, among others, who jam and groove to the pop-R&B hybrid.
"Can't Stop the Feeling" was written and produced by Timberlake, and Max Martin and Shellback, according to Billboard. It's the first single released from the Trolls soundtrack, which will be out on September 23, THR reports, but it won't be the last contribution from JT. He's apparently also recording a duet of "True Colors" with fellow Trolls star Anna Kendrick.
We can't wait to hear that, too.
