Late night TV host Jimmy Kimmel stood up to climate change deniers with a funny PSA-style video that had Kimmel's trademark humor all over it.
Sarah Palin's endorsement of the anti-climate change documentary Climate Hustle inspired Kimmel to speak up about the issue.
"I'm very passionate about this issue," Palin told Variety. "We've been told by fearmongers that global warming is due to man's activities and this presents strong arguments against that in a very relatable way."
For Kimmel, denying the existence of climate change would be like the denying the existence of gravity.
"If someone throws a piano off the roof, I don't care what Sarah Palin tells you, get out of the way," Kimmel said to his audience on Monday.
In his monologue, Kimmel stressed that climate change should not be a political matter, but rather a scientific one.
"Climate change is not a liberal versus conservative thing," Kimmel said. "But the people who profit from ignoring it want you to believe it is."
Kimmel was alluding to monetary contributions in the millions from the coal, oil and gas industries used to influence politicians.
Kimmel presented a comedic PSA on his show featuring the "people who know more than we do" — actual leading scientists. In the video, the scientists explain that climate change is happening, is caused by humans, and that the consequences could be catastrophic.
The scientists even say that their facts are "for real" and their conclusion "is not a prank."
But to make sure that climate change deniers believed them, the scientists used a new catchphrase in this funny PSA.
"We're not fucking with you."
