The Powerful Reason Why Jennifer Lawrence Is Taking A Break From Acting

"I think that young people are the answer."

When it comes to what's next for Jennifer Lawrence, you might be surprised to hear what she has to say. The Oscar-winning actress will be taking a brief break from Hollywood to do something that is super important to her and our country.

When CNN's Christiane Amanpour asked the Red Sparrow star about the rumors that she was putting her acting career on hold for a year, Lawrence confirmed it to be true. That may seem like a long time to fans because we've seen her in two big franchises — The Hunger Games and X-Men — but it's totally normal for actors to take breaks that long. While she's taking a break from being on set, Lawrence plans to work on political engagement.

"I'm going to be focusing mainly on an organization I'm a part of, Represent.Us," Lawrence explained to CNN. "I'll be traveling around just trying to get young people engaged politically on a local level."

Represent.Us is a nonpartisan, nonprofit advocacy organization founded in November 2012 by Josh Silver. "We bring together conservatives, progressives, and everyone in between to pass powerful anti-corruption laws that stop political bribery, end secret money, and fix our broken elections," the organization's mission statement reads. Lawrence is actually on the board and creative council along with David O. Russell, who directed Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and Joy.

The 27-year-old told Amanpour that many of the issues that are important to her — such as pollution, health care, education, and immigration (just to name a few) — all "fall under the umbrella of corruption." Lawrence explained that some politicians, when they get into office, work more for the big donors who get them there than they do for the American people — something she says keeps us from ever having "a full democracy."

All that said, Lawrence believes "young people are the answer" and she is going to reach out to them to help enact change. Amanpour points out how young people are speaking out about gun control and Lawrence acknowledged the fact that educating oneself is the "greatest power" anyone can give themselves and is the "only way real change is going to happen in our country."

With Lawrence stepping away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, she is doing something very similar to what Chelsea Handler did when the comedienne quit her Netflix talk show to focus on political activism, joining forces with EMILY's List.

While we might miss out on seeing these ladies on the big and small screen for a little while, at least we have them out there making the world — and the U.S. in particular — a better place.
