Oct. 11 was National Coming Out Day, a day for individuals in the LGBT community to make their true identity known to family and friends. Coming out is an incredibly big deal because of the very real fear that they won't be accepted by their loved ones.
This year, a YouTuber named Adam Davis decided to make a video of coming out to his father. But it becomes clear early on that the father-son relationship had been strained for some time.
"I wanted weekend visits as a kid and you wanted to party," Davis says in the video. "When you wanted weekend visits as I grew older, I was starting my own life."
Adam asked his family to describe his father and all of the responses confirmed that he's rough around the edges, to say the least:
"Mean, but nice at the same time. He's just like no other person that I've ever known."
"Crazy, old, crazy man. Big hearted, I guess."
The descriptions paint Adam's dad as a complicated person and it isn't entirely clear how the announcement will be received. Thankfully, Adam's brother Jake puts some perspective on the issue.
"I don't think he'd care," Jake said. "I think he'd probably care more that you told him yourself rather than just finding out, not from you."
Adam's brother Shane agreed: "He's a very understanding person."
Armed with confidence that his father would take the announcement well, Adam addressed his father again, coming right out with it.
"So for once and for all, Dad, I can finally tell you: your son is gay."
But that's when things take an unexpected turn.

This video does an amazing job of proving how important and emotional it can be to come out to family members.
