An Imgur user going by the name AppleDarling recently posted a startling series of photos that chronicle a remarkable transformation made possible by some extremely well-trained maxillofacial surgeons.
AppleDarling begins with a discussion of how cruelly she was treated by others.
"I've always had bad teeth," she writes on Imgur, "and since childhood I got made fun of and bullied for looking like a "monster". Parents would often comment on how bad my teeth looked."
"My top and bottom teeth did not touch, except for the very back of my mouth on the left side."
In her sophomore year of high school, she found out that braces were not an option...
Her upper and lower jaws were completely out of alignment.
She would have to undergo surgery. Fortunately, insurance covered much of the cost.
Her jaw had to be broken and reattached during a 3 hour operation.
Her jaw was wired shut and reassembled with titanium bolts. The swelling lasted a year.
Finally, she had braces put on.
And when her braces were removed months later...
She didn't recognize herself.
"I'm happy with my smile now," she writes, "and am extremely grateful to the amazing surgeons and my parents."
After her post went viral, AppleDarling took it all in stride. Thanks for sharing your incredible story.
It's remarkable how much of a difference modern medicine can make in our lives: something to be mindful of and thankful for... and something that we should strive to see in every country, not just ours.
