'Frozen' Star Idina Menzel Supports The Campaign To Give Elsa A Girlfriend

"I'm all for it."

Idina Menzel, the voice behind Frozen's Queen Elsa, appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Thursday. Miley Cyrus, who was filling in as host while Ellen was sick, asked the star what she thinks of the campaign for Elsa to be confirmed as a lesbian in the sequel.

Earlier this year, fans on Twitter encouraged Disney to #GiveElsaAGirlfriend in Frozen 2, citing the importance of LGBTQ representation for kids and noting the popular interpretation of "Let It Go" as a metaphor for coming out.

Idina told Miley that she doesn't know what the official plans are and can't promise it will happen ("I am a servant of Disney"), but she's personally "all for it."

"I think it's a wonderful idea," she said. "I think it's a wonderful conversation that we should all have about whether a Disney princess or queen could be gay."

Miley agreed, taking the opportunity to mention her Happy Hippie Foundation, which supports LGBTQ youth. "And that's a big reason why I think it's so important for me ... to have the conversation, because young people don't get to see that enough at such a young age to feel comfortable. So I think it would be awesome if Elsa was a lesbian."
