Last November, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" left viewers just a bit disappointed, given that it was mostly a setup for a more dramatic final chapter that would require another year of waiting. Whether it's the film world splitting the final "Harry Potter" movie into two parts, or the TV world stretching the final episodes of shows like "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men" over two mini-seasons, Hollywood has always had a little trouble letting go of its cash cows. The movie adaptation of the final "Hunger Games" book may have followed the same trend, but the wait for it just got a little easier with the release of the first trailer in all its glory.
Featuring a stone-faced Jennifer Lawrence (and just about every other actor's stone face, for that matter), the two-minute teaser wastes no time demonstrating the stakes for the series' key players. The stage for the finale battle has already been set with "Mockingjay Part 1," so Katniss' proclamation that "[President] Snow has to pay for what he's done" suggests a showdown with the puppeteer behind all the propaganda, death and destruction thus far.
Beyond that, the trailer is essentially one big crescendo itself, complete with epic music, explosions and a barrage of some sort of black sludge. Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Julianne Moore, Donald Sutherland and Philip Seymour Hoffman (in his final film role) all star alongside Lawrence once again. Get excited.
